Microsoft is reportedly “looking at” bringing Office for Mac to Apple’s recently launched Mac App Store. Currently, Apple’s rival suite – iWork – is available to download via the Mac App Store. The absence of Office for Mac, iWork’s competitor, is obviously an issue for Microsoft.
As AllThingsD reports:
“It’s something we are looking at,” Microsoft’s Amanda Lefebvre told Mobilized. However, the company said its product is already available in lots of places as well as via the Web–including in a new, free 30-day trial version.
“It’s something we haven’t ruled out,” she said. “We just have to see how that relates to our business.”
While this would provide Apple with some competition for iWork to battle against, it isn’t all bad news for Steve Jobs and friends. Remember, Apple snags 30 percent of all Mac App Store purchases, which is a pretty fat cut of app sales.
Currently, Apple’s iWork apps – Pages, Numbers, and Keynote – are available to download in the Mac App Store for $20 each.
Over at Amazon, you can grab Office for Mac Student Edition for $100, and the Family Pack
for $125. Apple’s iWork suite is available for around $60 (Student
) or $70 (Family
). Personally, I generally tend to use iWork.
Which is your favorite?
