Earlier this week, Path’s major update (version 2.0) caused something of a controversy when it was discovered that the application silently uploaded users’ contact data to its own servers. Since, Path has removed this quirk from its iOS app, and a jailbreak tweak has even been developed which notifies users of this kind of activity. However, that hasn’t stopped Instagram from adding a pop-up notification to its recently updated application, warning users that it’s accessing contacts and uploading them to its own server. It looks like a trend has been set: as The Next Web notes, “app makers are slowly starting to ensure they notify users as to how their data is being processed.” Though not all app developers have added this feature, remember the ContactPrivacy jailbreak tweak can add the feature to all installed iOS apps for you, for free.
