Today Apple has announced the iPhone 4S, the latest device in Apples iPhone range. Pre-orders start on October 7th for UK (£499.00 PAYG), Canada, Australia, France and Germany with the device expected to ship to the US on October 14th and everything else comes out October 12th.
So what’s new with the iPhone 4S?

Camera
- 8 megapixels (3264 x 2448)
- 73% more light reaches the chip for improved quality and a much faster chip (1.1s for the first photo, 0.5s for the next)
- backside illumination
- Hybrid IR filter – better colour accuracy and uniformity
- 5 element lens, 30% more sharpness, and a f/2.3 aperture.
- macro mode for close shots
- 1080p video – video image stabilization & temporal noise reduction
- airplay mirroring – game on your TV
Intelligent Assistant “Siri”
- Just hold down the home button and Siri will listen in and answer your question.
- Examples
- “Do I need a raincoat today?” Siri responds “It sure looks like rain today.”
- “Wake me up tomorrow at 6am.” Siri responds “Okay, I set it [your alarm] for 6am.”
- “Find me a great Greek restaurant in Palo Alto.” Siri says (courtesy of Yelp) that she found 14 — sorted by rating.
- “Give me directions to Hoover Tower.” Siri brings up Maps, shows the route, and you’re good to go.
- “Search Wikipedia for Neil Armstrong.”
- Scott’s creating a reminder “Remind me to call my wife when I leave work.” Siri asks to confirm and makes the reminder. Siri already knew who his wife is and set up a geofence around work.

This one was unexpected, it seems like apple has moved into the card market by allowing you to quickly and easily send card for all occasions. No news on whether this feature will be available outside the US
